CFR Invitation for 11/29 Academic Conference Call: “Rule of Law and Global Poverty”

On behalf of the Council on Foreign Relations (CFR), I invite you and your students to participate in the next session of the Fall 2012 CFR Academic Conference Call series on Thursday, November 29, from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m. (ET). Terra Lawson-Remer, CFR’s fellow for civil society, markets, and democracy, will discuss the influence of law and governance institutions in the global south, and explore how outsiders and development practitioners can use the law to fight poverty.
Dr. Lawson-Remer is assistant professor of international affairs at the New School University in New York City and serves as chair of the university’s advisory committee on investor responsibility. Previously, she was senior adviser for international affairs at the U.S. Department of the Treasury. Dr. Lawson-Remer is co-creator of the social and economic rights fulfillment index and author of the forthcoming book “Fulfilling Economic & Social Rights.” She previously held positions at the United Nations University World Institute for Development Economics Research, Latham & Watkins LLP, Amnesty International USA, the Ethical Globalization Initiative, the New York Civil Liberties Union, and consulted for the World Bank.
